SUBSTANCE: method of determining the absolute specific activity of contents of a container and partial specific activities of separate radionuclides comprises using measurement results of the equipment gamma-ray spectrum coming out of the container, wherein said characteristics of radioactive wastes are calculated using a method for consecutive subtraction, from the measured overall spectrum, of the spectra of separate radionuclides restored by calculation, said spectra being identified based on selected photo peaks of maximum energies contained in the measured overall spectrum and based pre-calculated model "reference" spectra of each radionuclide which can be contained in the radioactive wastes, and further, using the restored model spectra of each identified radionuclide, synthesizing the overall model spectrum of the entire mixture and, based on the ratio between the number of detected gamma-ray quanta in said spectrum and the number of pulses in the measured spectrum, determining the absolute value of the overall specific activity of the radioactive wastes in the container and the absolute values of partial specific activities of each identified radionuclide.
EFFECT: determining the absolute specific activity of a mixture of radioactive nuclides and absolute partial specific activities of separate radionuclides.
