SUBSTANCE: composition administered into an individual suffering from magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesaemia, is applicable for oral administration and contains a hydrate form of magnesium oxide designated as MgO·(H₂O)n, wherein n represents any value from 0.1 to 2 in the concentration falling within the range from at least 10 wt % to at least 95 wt % of the total weight of the composition, mixed with one or both compounds Mg(OH)₂ and MgO. What is also presented is a method for maintaining a magnesium level or preventing hypomagnesaemia in an individual suffering from magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesaemia or caused conditions, involving administering a therapeutically effective amount of the composition containing the hydrate form of magnesium oxide specified in a group containing: magnesium oxide hydrate MgO·(H₂O)n and MgO, or magnesium oxide hydrate MgO·(H₂O)n and Mg(OH)₂, or magnesium oxide hydrate MgO·(H₂O)n in a combination with Mg(OH)₂ and MgO, wherein n represents any value from 0.1 to 2. What is also presented is the pharmaceutical composition as a dosage form for oral administration into the individual suffering from magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesaemia or caused conditions or disorders, and for preventing the above conditions or disorders, containing a magnesium salt specified in a group consisting of magnesium oxide hydrate MgO·(H₂O)n, wherein n is any number from 0.1 to 2, mixed with one or both compounds MgO and Mg(OH)₂. The composition is able to form magnesium ions in an amount of at least 50% of its magnesium content in the individual's physiological gastric environment.
