SUBSTANCE: method comprises determining azimuth resolution through a beam width when scanning (beam rotation) in the azimuthal plane, and the angular position of the antenna where the signal has the maximum amplitude is taken as the azimuth of the target; high-frequency signals received by the background aperture are separated from low-frequency signals received by the real aperture, for which the full azimuthal signal sequence in one scan is stored; further, the discrete Fourier transform of the signal is performed in the spatial frequency domain, followed by higher frequency filtering, after which the signal is transformed into the time domain by inverse fast Fourier transform; further, the tapered beam pattern, obtained by selecting the high-frequency part of the azimuthal signal, is used to determine the azimuth of the target with improved resolution.

EFFECT: unique and more accurate measurement of the azimuthal coordinates of a target at small elevation angles and improved azimuth resolution.
