FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of a protective optical component with a plasmon effect designed for viewing with transmission. The component comprises: two layers of a transparent dielectric material, a metal layer situated between said layers of transparent dielectric material to form two dielectric-metal boundaries and structured to form on at least part of the surface thereof wave-like elements capable of coupling surface plasmon modes, supported by the dielectric-metal boundaries, with an incident light wave. The wave-like elements are made in a first coupling area in a first primary direction and at least a second coupling area, different from said first coupling area, in a second primary direction substantially perpendicular to the first primary direction, wherein said metal layer is continuous in each of said coupling areas. The invention also relates to a security document and a method of producing said component.

EFFECT: use of the present invention enables to easily and safely inspect a protective optical element with transmission using a naked eye, while providing maximum comfort for an inexperienced user and high reliability of authentication.
