SUBSTANCE: invention relates to lighting engineering. Illumination device based on light-emitting diodes (LED) includes LED and voltage source designed to ensure supply of electric energy to LED. LED-based illumination device includes also temperature sensor manufactured to define temperature in the selected location of the illumination device and controller coupled between the temperature sensor and voltage source, which is designed to measure ambient temperature and excitation current against ambient temperature and to ensure output voltage for LED on the basis of excitation current. Control method for operational life of LED, machine-readable medium and device are also described.

EFFECT: increased operational life for LED source and improved characteristics of its light efficiency in wide range of temperature for semiconductor junction.
