FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: wood material is treated with water-based composition stable at the room temperature or at 15 to 35°C. Said composition comprises the alkaline metal silicate, water, solubility-decreasing agent selected from organic acid, inorganic acid or inorganic polyvalent ion added in the amount lower than that of said solubility-decreasing agent and required to make said composition reach the gelation point. Weight percentage of said silicate with respect to total amount of the composition can vary from 1 wt % to 50 wt %. The composition is applied to dry the wood material at whatever aforesaid temperature for removal of excess water. Dried wood material is hardened at increased temperature for reduction of alkaline metal silicate solubility. Impregnation at the pressure is performed by placing the wood material inside the impregnation vessel and application of water-based composition thereon. Impregnation vessel and its content are evacuated.
EFFECT: higher fire resistance and biological stability.
