FIELD: organic synthesis catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts for gas-phase synthesis of unsaturated esters, in particular for gas-phase formation of vinyl acetate in reaction of ethylene with oxygen and acetic acid. Catalyst carrier is impregnated with water-soluble palladium and gold compounds, after which these compounds are fixed and reduced into metallic palladium and gold. Carrier is then impregnated with second portion of water- soluble gold compound, which is likewise fixed and reduced into metal. Finally, catalyst is impregnated with alkali metal acetate such as sodium acetate. EFFECT: increased volumetric productivity, reduced carbon dioxide and ethyl acetate selectivity, and lowered formation of heavy fractions. 29 cl, 2 tbl, 3 ex
