SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to image processing technology. Method includes the following: calculation of a priori probability of appearance of the head-arms foreground in every pixel on an image with a specified size in accordance with the result of positioning the points of external contour of the face, selection of reference pixels of the head-arms foreground and reference pixels of the background from the segmented image. Calculation of the first and second probabilities of the likelihood of colours of the head-arms foreground and the background, respectively, calculation of the first posteriori probability of the head-arms foreground and second posteriori probability of the background in accordance with a priori probability and segmentation of the head-arms on segmented image in accordance with the first and second posterior probabilities.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of accuracy of image segmentation.
