SUBSTANCE: adapter includes a connector compatible with the pluggable socket of a portable electronic device and a connector compatible with the plug connector of an accessory, incompatible with each other. The adapter comprises a circuit for converting signals received from the accessory into a format which can be transmitted to and processed by the electronic device, and for converting signals received from the electronic device into a format which can be transmitted to and processed by the accessory. The adapter also comprises an authentication circuit which provides two authentication levels. First, the adapter performs its own authentication for the portable electronic device. If the said first authentication is successful, the adapter performs the authentication of the accessory for the adapter.
EFFECT: providing compatibility between incompatible accessories and devices having different sockets and different data transfer protocols.
