SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a technology that provides support and connection to various types of auxiliary devices of computer equipment by means of, in particular, a universal serial bus (USB). Reversible connectors for accessory devices in one or more implementations are described. Connecting cable for the accessory of the main computing device is designed in such a way that the head of the connecting cable can be connected to the corresponding port of the host in any orientation (direct or facing). Main computing device is configured to sample signals associated with the dedicated pins of the connector to detect the connection of the connector to the auxiliary port and to set the orientation of the connector. Combination of high and low values of the signals transmitted through these dedicated detection contacts when inserting a connector can be used by the host controller to distinguish between different types of devices and to determine the orientation of the connecting cable.

EFFECT: switching mechanism of the main computing device can then be configured to automatically route the signals accordingly.
