FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for preparing 2-hydroxybutyrolactone (2HBL) from the compound of formula (I) CH3-S-CH2CH2CRIR2R3, wherein first a sulfone of formula (II) [CH3] [CH2CH2CR1R2CR3] [CR6R7R8] S+ X-, and the resulting sulfonium hydrolyzed, and 2,4-dihydrohydroxy-butanoic acid acid or salt thereof is cyclized to 2-hydroxybutyrolactone (2HBL).
EFFECT: technical result developed a new, more simple, inexpensive and effective method for the synthesis of 2-hydroxybutyrolactone (2HBL).
