FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to laser processing of materials. A method of forming an optical waveguide structure of the shell in the volume of the transparent material is performed by ultrashort laser pulses, in which pulses of laser radiation is focused into the volume of a transparent material. Pulse repetition rate and the relative movement of the material selected and the focus so that the focus occurs locally heating the material above the melting point. Shell waveguide structure formed spaced apart extended regions with altered refractive index.
EFFECT: forming a waveguide structure with the desired properties of the core.
