FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of laser processing of materials, in particular to a method for producing a single-mode waveguide based on the modification of glass by a focused beam of femtosecond laser pulses. Method for producing the single-mode waveguide is based on the modification of the refractive index of a transparent dielectric, including focusing of the femtosecond laser pulses into the dielectric capacity and moving the focused beam along a predetermined trajectory, resulting in a reduction in the refractive index of the material in the focusing region along the path of the beam motion. Sequential recording of several tracks of a reduced refractive index, bounding a region of unmodified material, leads to the creation of the single-mode waveguide. In this case, as the transparent dielectric, tellurite glass is used, and a femtosecond laser generates pulses at a wavelength of 1028 nm with a frequency in the range of 1-1,000 kHz with a duration of 150-500 fs and the energy of 14-200 nJ, when moving a lens focused with a numerical aperture in the range of 0.3-0.9 of the laser beam with respect to the glass in the speed interval 0.033-20 mm / s, the pitch between the tracks forming the enclosure of the waveguide is in the interval of 1.4-3.6 mcm.
EFFECT: technical result is the creation of a structure with an enclosure with a reduced index of refraction in the glass.
