FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of partitioned through insulators. Method of determining optimum number of sections N of partitioned insulator with preset height H, made in form of alternating annular, disc or cylinder elements from insulating material and gaskets from conducting material of specified thickness b, previously removed dependence of breakdown voltage U at surface of dielectric material placed in vacuum, from dielectric thickness d, analytical description of which are in form of exponential function U = kdα, and using obtained when dependence of breakdown voltage of dielectric surface of thickness of experimental data coefficients k and α in above function.
EFFECT: proposed method has higher accuracy of determining optimum number of sections in insulator that allows preset height of insulator (H) and specified thickness of gradient gasket (b) obtaining maximum possible breakdown voltage for specified dimensions of insulator.
