FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrometallurgy, in particular DC arc furnaces. Melting metal in said furnaces is carried out in refractory-lined working space, through arch of which passes a cathode. Cathode used can be a graphitised electrode, and one or more anodes are passed through, where anodes used are hearth electrodes. Hearth electrode includes steel head (1) in contact with pieces of metal scrap (12) or liquid molten metal, connected with it a copper case with contact plate (8) equipped with cooling system located outside bottom of arc furnace. Copper case is composed of 3-6 copper plates (2) of trapezoidal shape, expanding downwards. At top copper plates are welded to steel head (1) and similarly connected to copper plate (4) made in form of a flat cylinder. Ratio of thickness of copper bottom thickness equal to copper plates 1.0÷1.5. Ratio of diameter of copper bottom to diameter of steel head is 1.5÷3.0.
EFFECT: invention improves contact and heat transfer.
