SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture. Invention provides a method for marking population varies of alfalfa, including by crossing parental pairs removing top of sails of a blossoming flower, implementation of artificial tripping, room inflorescences in a hypotonic aqueous solution and applying pollen after drying stigma, where paternal form using donor marker signs ( abnormal for alfalfa types of inflorescences - complex brush and “cauliflower”) with a different colour from parent form of corolla lobes, followed by selection of F₁ plants with coloured petals of parent form, creation of which marked hybrid population, in which frequency of plants with abnormal type inflorescences sufficient for visual detection during testing.

EFFECT: method improves distinctiveness of created varieties of alfalfa populations.
