FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture. Invention provides a method for marking population varies of alfalfa, including by crossing parental pairs removing top of sails of a blossoming flower, implementation of artificial tripping, room inflorescences in a hypotonic aqueous solution and applying pollen after drying stigma, where paternal form using donor marker signs ( abnormal for alfalfa types of inflorescences - complex brush and “cauliflower”) with a different colour from parent form of corolla lobes, followed by selection of F1 plants with coloured petals of parent form, creation of which marked hybrid population, in which frequency of plants with abnormal type inflorescences sufficient for visual detection during testing.
EFFECT: method improves distinctiveness of created varieties of alfalfa populations.
