SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to processing of paper sheets, particularly banknotes. System for reading serial number assigned to paper sheet, using image of paper sheet, consists of paper sheet displacement unit for movement of paper sheet; sensor unit for identification of paper sheet for imaging of paper sheet, displaced paper sheet displacement unit, and identification of type of paper sheet with help of image of paper sheet; memory unit, in which condition of number extracting including information on position of multiple serial numbers included in image of paper sheet, and font sign identification information including information relating to font and type of characters of each serial number, associated with type of paper sheet and are stored; and sign identification unit for accessing memory unit based on type of paper sheet identified unit of transducers for identification of paper sheet, extraction of image sign each element of serial number of image of paper sheet based on conditions of extraction of sign identification number and each image with help of appropriate data template based on information of identification sign font.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of accuracy of recognition of banknotes.
