SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in ignition systems of internal combustion engines (ICE), as well as in other mechatronics systems: commutation, telemetry, automation and telemechanics distribution devices. Multi-slot optical ignition sensor of ICE comprises a stationary stator equipped with a light source in the centre and n uniformly distributed in circle photocells, and a rotating rotor, cylindrical shell of which includes mn+1 or mn-1 cutouts for direct or reverse spark formation relative to direction of the rotor rotation, respectively, where n is number of ICE cylinders, m is any natural number: m = 1, 2, 3...

EFFECT: mn+1 or mn-1-fold reduction of rotor rotation frequency, corresponding mn+1 or mn-1-fold increase of time in closed state, possibility of continuous switching, as well as a higher mechanical and electrical device reliability.
