SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of electrical engineering and transport, in particular, to devices for intermittent current pickup, and may be used in ignition systems of internal combustion engines (ICE), and also in systems of commutation, telemetry and armament, for instance, for control of powder charge ignition. Suggested ignition distributor of internal combustion engine includes cover with internal round surface, on which along circumference n contacts are evenly arranged with leads to spark plugs, and rotor installed inside cover along its axis of symmetry and equipped with current-distributing plate. At that according to invention, current distributing plate of rotor is arranged in the form of regular n + 1 or n - 1 - beam star, at that voltage is supplied to spark plugs of all cylinders sequentially for the time of incomplete rotation of distributor rotor, but only for the time of rotor turn by angle of 2π/(n +1) or 2π/(n -1), accordingly, therefore, required frequency of distributor rotor rotation is reduced n + 1 or n - 1 times.

EFFECT: reduced wear, lower vibrations and heat release of distributor components, provision of structural self-balance of its rotor, and also increased time of spark plug charge action, as a result, distributor functional-operational characteristics are improved, increasing its efficiency and reliability.
