FIELD: optical system; measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical measurements and concerns a method and a device for obtaining information on an input optical signal. Method is based on conversion of modulated optical signals using a heterodyne photodetector and comprises frequency modulation of radiation and transmitting to photodetector input of photodetector device, which is fed with modulated electric pulses of same frequency with synchronisation of phase delay. Simultaneously modulated optical radiation is fed to photodetector input of an additional photodetector device, which is fed with electric pulses from heterodyne with frequency of modulated optical radiation quadrature relative to feed pulses of main photodetector device. Based on signal from an additional photodetector, obtaining information on phase delay of input optical signal, which is used to synchronise heterodyne.

EFFECT: high information value, sensitivity, selectivity and signal-to-noise ratio.
