FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates Hall effect thrusters. Thruster comprises tank (101) of gas under high pressure, pressure regulator module (103), gas flow rate control device (105), ionisation channel, cathode (40A, 40B) placed in vicinity of outlet from ionisation channel, anode associated with ionisation channel, electrical power supply unit (110), electric filter (120), and coils (31, 32) for creating a magnetic field around ionisation channel (21). Hall effect thruster also comprises additional electrical power supply unit (125) for applying a pulsating voltage between anode (25) and cathode (40A, 40B). Additional electrical power supply unit (125) produces in alternation a first discharge voltage for a first duration lying in range of 5-15 mcs, and a second discharge voltage for a second duration lying in range of 5-15 mcm.
EFFECT: technical result is higher specific pulse and longer service life with considerable reduction of erosion of discharge channel.
