FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to image processing. Image processing method for eliminating screen-type pattern of an image through an evacuated representation of scanned printed copies includes assessing the size of screen-type pattern of an input image. Screened input image is smoothed by using germ of smoothing. Size of germ of smoothing is defined as the maximum, which is necessary for complete elimination of screen-type pattern in the input image. Sharpness of the smoothed image is restored by the method of sparse coding using two sets of image samples obtained from a set of reference images with continuous tones. First set is a set of smoothed image samples, and the second set is a set of sharp image samples. Sizes of the set and the sample, the degree of sample smoothness and the parameters of sparse coding are set in compliance with the estimated size of screen-type pattern for elimination of screen-type pattern in the image.
EFFECT: technical result: increased efficiency of elimination of screen-type pattern in a screened image due to resource saving when processing images.
