SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to use (oxidised) thioesters of alcohol alkoxylates in detergent and cleaning agents, especially in dishwashing agents, and to detergent and cleaning agent, especially dishwashing agent containing (oxidised) thioester of alcohol alkoxylates. Said (oxidised) thioesters are suitable as surfactants with rinsing function to clean water. Described is use of compounds of formula R-O-[CH₂CH(R¹)-O]_l-[CH₂CH₂-O]_m-[CH₂CH(R²)-O]_n-CH₂CH₂-S(O)_x-R' (I), where R denotes alkyl with 8-24 carbon atoms, R′ is alkyl with 10-14 carbon atoms, R¹ and R², independently from each other and irrespective of their specific appearance, denote an alkyl with 1-5 carbon atoms, m denotes a number from 25 to 50, l and n equal to 0 and x equals 0 or 1.

EFFECT: absence of foaming, reducing staining on dishware during washing.
