SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hand-held devices for signal targets, automatic ignition of torches, lighting stars, etc, using generated gases, and can be used for self-defense when scaring away stray or wild animals with light and sound effect, formed during combustion pyroelements installed in a replaceable cartridge. Hand-held gas-generating device for pulse action includes pyroelements, permanently installed in independent cells multi-seat replaceable cartridge, equipped with overall latches for mounting in mounting seat of housing, shaped as bent palm of a human hand, wherein pyroelements adjoin contacts at bottom of mounting seat, which are connected via automatic switch with a power supply, equipped with push power-on key. On ledge cells of cartridge above pyroelements with guaranteed clearance there are, coated by obturating cover, functional stars of pyrotechnic composition, wherein cartridge from outside is equipped with stiffness ribs and through central opening, edges of which are congruent to adjacent surfaces.

EFFECT: invention broadens technological capabilities of device and is applicable when using functionally and structurally different but compatible cartridges.
