SUBSTANCE: radio network controller (14) communicates over a radio link control layer with user equipment (18). Radio network controller transmits a packet data unit to user equipment (18). Packet data unit comprises a header with a first field, which first field comprises bits for a sequence number of packet data unit. Header further comprises a second field comprising at least one bit indicating that a third field of header comprises bits for sequence number as an extension of bits to first field for sequence number.
