SUBSTANCE: invention relates to filtering unsolicited commercial electronic communications (spam). Method for spam detection comprises in response to receiving the target string, forming a part of an electronic communication, employing at least one computer system processor for selecting the candidate strings from a corpus of reference strings, selecting the candidate strings comprises: comparison of the string length of the target string with the string length of a reference string of the corpus; in response to selecting the reference string in the group of candidate strings according to a result of the comparison of string lengths; in response to selecting the group of candidate strings - employing at least one processor for the first comparison between the target string and candidate string from the group of candidate strings and the second comparison between the target string and candidate string; and employing at least one processor for determining, according to the result of the first comparison and second comparison, if the electronic communication is spam; first comparison comprises comparison for each symbol in the group of various alphanumeric characters, between the number of each symbol in the target string and number of each symbol in the reference string; second comparison between a timestamp of the electronic communication and a timestamp of the other electronic communication, other electronic communication includes a candidate string.

EFFECT: technical result is efficient spam detection.
