FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to novel associative thickeners of HEUR (hydrophobically modified ethylene oxide urethane) type, of which hydrophobic monomer is based on cyclohexylol alkyls, as well as to aqueous compositions containing same. Described is a water-soluble polyurethane obtained by condensation of: a) at least one monomer of formula (I):

where R denotes an alkyl group with 10-15 carbon atoms; b) at least one polyalkylene glycol; and c) at least one polyisocyanate. Said polyurethane or aqueous composition is used for thickening aqueous composition, wherein said composition is selected from a group consisting of paint, varnish, drying oil, coating for paper, cosmetic composition and detergent composition.
EFFECT: technical result is providing considerable thickening of aqueous composition under conditions of average gradient shift with simultaneous limitation of increase in viscosity in lower shear gradient conditions.
