FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to internal combustion engines exhaust gases processing systems. Catalyst protection device includes: catalyst provided in internal combustion engine exhaust system and cleaning exhaust gases; layer temperature data collecting unit, which obtains information on catalyst layer current temperature; increment basic value calculation unit, calculating increment basic value, which is fuel amount increment value basic value, injected by nozzle provided in internal combustion engine, for catalyst cooling, when layer current temperature exceeds preset value to determine overheating temperature; compensator receiving corrected increment value by increment basic value correction using reduction coefficient, calculated using value of layer target temperature, specified explicitly below determination value; and injected fuel amount increasing unit, which selects one of values - increment basic value or corrected increment value.
EFFECT: when catalyst protection is necessary, fuel increment value is respectively optimized to acceptable values, however, without excessive reduction.
