SUBSTANCE: invention relates to zooming a displayed image. System for displaying an image comprises: a zoom subsystem for gradually zooming the image towards a zoom level, at which the image just fits within the viewport, wherein the zoom subsystem is arranged for keeping a fixed point fixed within the viewport during the gradual zooming of the image; fixed point determiner for establishing the fixed point based on a panning parameter and a zoom parameter of the image at the time zooming starts for obtaining as the fixed point a point of the image which is being displayed in the viewport at the time zooming starts and which enables the image to be zoomed to the zoom level at which the image lust fits within the viewport by keeping the fixed point fixed with respect to the viewport.

EFFECT: providing improved displaying an image in the viewport due to zooming the image.
