FIELD: tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to self-tapping screw and aimed at simplification of self-tapping screw making process. Self-tapping screw from austenitic or other stainless steel with body with thread shaping area and made by tip in form of drill. Body is entirely consists of austenite or other stainless steel and, at least in tip area is equipped with thin galvanically applied coating, therefore coated area is harder than not coated area, wherein thin coating has surface in manner of granulated or columnar structure, coating thickness is, at least, 2µΜ and preferably to 30 µm and has hardness ranging from 500 to 1,500 HV0.3 (Vickers hardness number). Self-tapping screw can be made easier, than conventional self-tapping screw, which is made in form of drill, tip consists of harder material, than body and is welded to stainless steel body. Thus, self-tapping screw is completely austenite self-tapping screw from main material, which is equipped with hard coating.
EFFECT: coating provides efficiency of drilling and thread formation.
