FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to dissolve and/or inhibit deposition of scale on a surface of a system by bringing surface of system into contact with a composition. Composition contains: A) from about 3 to about 15 parts by weight of a chelating component selected from a group consisting of methylglycine-N-N-diacetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, hydroxyethylethylenediaminetriacetic acid, N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)-L-glutamate, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid,diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid and/or an alkali salt thereof, and mixtures thereof; B) from about 3 to about 15 parts by weight of an acidic component different from chelating component and C) at least about 60 parts by weight of water; wherein parts by weight are based on 100 parts by weight of composition. Scale includes iron phosphate, potassium fluosilicate, potassium fluoride and potassium hexafluorosilicate. Composition can additionally contain a surfactant and/or corrosion inhibitor.
EFFECT: compositions provide improved method of removing or preventing scaling and are environmentally safe.
