FIELD: personal use and household items.

SUBSTANCE: invention provides a kitchen machine, such as a food processor (1), that employs a bladed member comprising blade-carrying disc (32) rotated just beneath lid (5) of processing bowl (3), with an improved and energy-saving cutting action. Vibratory element (30), such as a device, is mounted on disc (32), or on the blade itself and is driven by a voltage waveform that causes element (30) to vibrate whilst disc (32) in rotation. Waveform may be generated within base unit (13) of food processor (1) and supplied to vibratory element (30) by way of slip rings (40, 42; 66), which may be exposed on disc (32) and contacted by brushes (46, 48) mounted under lid (5), concealed within drive shaft (72) used to convey the rotational drive to disc (32) from a motor housed in base unit (13).

EFFECT: vibrations are superimposed on the conventional mechanical rotation of bladed member (32) to improve the cutting action of the blade and thus reduce the amount of energy, needed to drive the blade through foodstuffs.
