FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment in machine building and can be used for controlling shape of cylindrical surfaces of thin-wall cylindrical shells in scientific research and production practice. Proposed method consists in that measurement of initial irregularities of a shape is carried out over entire surface of shell in several interconnected sections of shell, by rotating shell relative to measuring system, analogue signal from sensors of measuring system is converted into digital form, to generate an array of quantized readings, using values of its elements to calculate via two-dimensional discrete cosine transform a coefficient matrix, elements of which are used as parameters of initial irregularities of shape.

EFFECT: technical result of invention is improvement of reliability and accuracy of measurement of initial irregularities of shape, automation and improvement of efficiency of control.
