FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a self activating catalyst for hydrotreating heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks. Said catalyst comprises a calcined particle comprising a co-mulled mixture made by co-mulling inorganic oxide powder, molybdenum trioxide powder, and a nickel compound and then forming co-mulled mixture into a particle, which is calcined to obtain a calcined particle, wherein said inorganic oxide is selected from a group which includes aluminium oxide, silicon dioxide and double aluminium and silicon oxide, wherein said calcined particle includes molybdenum, which is present in amount ranging from 1 to 10 wt% with respect to metal and in relation to total weight of said calcined particle, and nickel, which are present in such quantity that weight ratio of said nickel and said molybdenum is less than 0.4, and wherein said calcined particle has such pore size distribution that at least 40 %, but less than 70 % of total pore volume of said calcined particle comprises pores of said calcined particle, with diameter varying from 70 to 150 Å, at least 10 % of total pore volume of said calcined particle comprises pores of said calcined particle with diameter varying from 130 to 300 Å, and from 1 to 10 % of total pore volume of said calcined particle comprises pores of said calcined particle with diameter of more than 1,000 Å, wherein said calcined particle is characterised by that it exhibits Raman spectrum which includes a Raman peak within band range from 546 to 586 cm-1. Invention also relates to a method of processing heavy hydrocarbon feedstock.
EFFECT: technical result is obtaining an improved hydrotreatment catalyst, having high catalytic activity and stability.
