SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hybrid hydrodynamic and hydrostatic fluid bearings. Hybrid hydrodynamic and hydrostatic fluid bearing bushing for a rolling mill of the type having a roll neck comprises an annular bushing shell, having an inner surface for rotatively capturing a rolling mill roll neck therein, plurality of hydrostatic pad recesses defined within the inner surface, and at least one separate isolated lubricant passage. Lubricant passage is in communication with each respective hydrostatic pad recess. Each respective lubricant passage is adapted for coupling to a separate isolated source of pressurized lubricant.
EFFECT: result is use of lower pressure output pumps.
