FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises breakage of iron-potassium catalyst waste, calcining the crushed catalyst at a temperature of 650-800°C for 3-6 hours and its subsequent cooling to room temperature, the dissolution of the calcined catalyst in concentrated hydrochloric acid in a ratio of catalyst: acid = 1:8-1:10, heating the resultant solution to boiling, and holding at reflux temperature for 30-120 minutes, extract solution for crystallisation of cerium dioxide for 3-12 hours at negative temperatures down to minus 20°C, obtaining a precipitate, separating the precipitate from the stock solution by decanting and filtering, washing the precipitate on the filter from an iron compound, drying the precipitate to constant weight with obtaining cerium.
EFFECT: increased yield of cerium.
