FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: it is proposed to minimize the initial ions coordinates along the X-axis and to introduce the ions into the analyzer with the initial speed in the Z-axis, inversely proportional to the ions mass. The method is realised in the electrode system with the planar discrete electrodes and the grounded electrode, wherein two narrow slits are cut for the input and the output of the ions along the Z-axis, symmetrically against its center. Initial rates are selected so that during the return drift along the Y-axis, the ions pass along the Z-axis distance equal to the distance between the slit centers.
EFFECT: increasing the resolution and solving the problem of the constructive combining the input and output devices of the radio-fraquency time-of-flight ion mass-analyzer.
