FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of mass spectrometry and can be used to improve the analytical, operational and commercial characteristics of devices for microanalysis of matter, using the movement of ions in quadrupole high-frequency electric fields. The device contains an ion-optical system of planar electrodes with discrete-linear distributions on them of superpositions of RF quadrupole and quasi-static and homogeneous static potentials. In the process of sweeping the masses, by a change in the constant component of the quadrupole field under the action of a uniform static field, excitation occurs at the stability boundary of unipolar oscillations of ions. In this case, the ions are taken from the analyzer for registration one by one, in decreasing order of their mass.
EFFECT: increasing the resolution and sensitivity of quadrupole mass analyzers.
