SUBSTANCE: method comprises melting the starting materials in the presence of a carbonaceous reductant to obtain a metal melt containing iron-platinum compound and its subsequent conversion with separation of platinum group metals. The carbonaceous reducing agent is used in the form of solid and gaseous fuels. Melting the starting material is carried out by bubbling oxygen-enriched melt blown out in two stages. In the first stage melting lead to a homogeneous molten state to provide a ratio between the values of the enthalpies of gaseous and solid energy of not less than 0.4, then a second lead smelting step to obtain an emulsion having an iron content of the melt in the metal phase is not less than 40%. Converting the molten metal, iron-containing compound is carried out in two stages. The first step lead to the oxygen-depleted air blast to melt the iron content equal to 25-30%, and a second step for blowing air to the iron content equal to 2-5%.
