FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: substrate (24) cultivation is carried out during the melt bath crystallization (28) under the (30) melted slag layer. The energy beam (36) is used to melt powder (32) or a hollow wire (42) with a filler (44) of the powdered alloy under the slag layer. The slag layer is, at least, partially transparent (37) for the energy beam, and it can be partially optically absorptive or permeable for the energy beam, to absorb enough energy remaining molten. As in the conventional ESW process, the slag layer insulates the melted material and prevents it from reacting with the air.
EFFECT: powder content can be changed along the axis (A) of the resulting part crystallization to provide a functionally gradient directionally-crystallized product.
