FIELD: aviation.

SUBSTANCE: radiation of at least four spaced false light contrasts is done. The contracts are produced by on-board laser spot radiation sources mounted on a stabilized platform. They are recorded by means of two spaced digital cameras mounted on a stabilized platform. The coordinates of the images of the false light contrasts are determined on the photo matrices. Their coordinates are evaluated in the coordinate system associated with the stabilized platform. The altitude of the helicopter, the angles of the orientation of the ground surface relative to the horizon are calculated and the angles characterizing the unevenness of the surface in the vicinity of the landing point are determined, which provides a reasonable choice of a place for safe landing.
