FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: way of monitoring the state of the drifting ice field or fast ice and predicting its fracture upon compression of ice and the influence of swell waves is stated. The method consists in arranging seismometers and tiltmeters on the ice field or fast ice, which fix the wave fields and their formation centers in the surrounding ice cover, strain gauges and strainmeters to detect changes in the stress-strain state of the ice field, global satellite positioning system for time synchronization and fixation of changes orientation of the arrangement of the sensors when drifting and turning the ice field. According to the stated solution, four field modular stations are arranged on the ice field in a quadrilateral scheme, each of which includes a three-component seismometer, a two-component tiltmeter, two one-component strain gauge, two voltage sensors and a receiver of global satellite positioning system signals. In this case, the dimensions of the sides of the quadrilateral are chosen depending on the size of the ice field and the problems to be solved.

EFFECT: increase of promptness of allocation of predictors of faults of an ice field and advance forecasting of a dangerous phenomenon in a certain time range.
