FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: composition is proposed for forming a protective oxide-zirconium coating on a steel surface prior to applying a paint coating comprising the following components: hexafluorozirconic acid 0.08-0.25%, nickel nitrate (in terms of metal) 0.002-0.012%, ammonium paramolybdate 0.01-0.03%, the rest is water. A method for forming a protective oxide-zirconium coating is also provided, comprising treating the steel surface for 3-8 minutes with said composition at a pH of 4.0-5.5 and a temperature of 20-40°C, and subsequently drying at a temperature of 100-140°C.

EFFECT: inventions make it possible to obtain protective titanium-containing coatings on a steel or aluminium surface that have high corrosion resistance and improve adhesion followed by a paint coating, and prevent contamination of the working solution with heavy metal ions.
