SUBSTANCE: invention relates to 2-[4'-(2",6"-dimethylphenoxy)benzoyl]benzoic acid pseudochloride of the formula I 
, which can be used as a monomer in the synthesis of polyarylene phthalides, as well as to a process for the preparation of Compound I, Comprising reacting 2-(4'-fluorobenzoyl) benzoic acid with 2,6-dimethylphenol in the presence of K2CO3 on heating in N, N-dimethylacetamide and subsequent treatment of the resulting 2-[4'-(2",6"-dimethylphenoxy)benzoyl] benzoic acid with thionyl chloride.
EFFECT: obtaining a new phthalide monomer from which one can obtain aromatic polymers, in particular polyarylenephthalides, and wherein the polycondensation reaction is not complicated processes branching and crosslinking.
