FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: polyarylene phthalide of the formula with a reduced viscosity of 0.30; 0.74 and 0.80 dl/g. Also described is a process for the preparation of the above polyarylenephthalide, comprising: reacting 2-(4'-fluorobenzoyl)benzoic acid with 2.6-dimethylphenol in the presence of K2CO3 when heated in N, N-dimethylacetamide, treatment of the resulting 2-[4'-(2",6"-dimethylphenoxy)benzoyl] benzoic acid with thionyl chloride and self-polycondensation of the pseudochloride obtained in this process in nitro- or chlorine-containing hydrocarbons using the chlorides of elements III, IV, V, VIII groups as a catalyst.
EFFECT: production of thermo- and heat-resistant polyarylenephthalide, which has increased resistance to hydrolysis in acidic media.
