FIELD: items for personal use.
SUBSTANCE: there is provided an absorbent article having a body-facing surface and a transverse center line and comprising: a hydrophilic top sheet, a back sheet attached to the top sheet, an absorbent core disposed between the top sheet and the back sheet, and a lateral top sheet on each longitudinal side facing the body of the surface of the absorbent article, arranged in such a way that at least part of it covers the top sheet at a location where the top sheet covers the absorbent core. The lateral top sheet comprises an injection zone extending in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article and comprising a plurality of compressed regions in which the lateral top sheet and the top sheet are compressed together in such a manner that the lateral top sheet is pressed into the top sheet. The lateral top sheet in the compressed regions has one layer.
