SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a compound of formula:
in which R'1 is a linear, branched or cyclic, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon-based radical containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms and substituted by one or more alkoxycarbonyl radicals, wherein the alkoxy contains from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R'2 represents a hydrogen atom; and a is a linear, branched or cyclic, saturated or unsaturated, hydrocarbon-based divalent chain containing from 2 to 30 carbon atoms, with boundary values included, and optionally interrupted by one or more heteroatoms selected from oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen, and he use of mentioned compound and an emulsion (co) polymerization process comprising, at least the following further steps in which: a) an emulsion is formed in an aqueous medium of at least one monomer containing vinyl unsaturation, b) at least one chain transfer agent described by formula (1) is added to mentioned emulsion, c) a (co) polymerization reaction is carried out, optionally in the presence of a co-polymerization initiator, d) optionally purifying and recovering the desired (co) polymer.
