FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: gas sensor for measuring the specific gas concentration comprises a light source, a measuring volume, a detector for receiving light transmitted through the measurement volume, and an adaptable filter located between the light source and the detector. The gas sensor is adapted to switch between the measurement state, in which it transmits, at least, one wavelength band, that is absorbed by the gas, and the reference state, in which the said wavelength band undergoes attenuation relative to the measurement state. The method for measuring the specific gas concentration includes passing the light pulse through the gas volume and receiving the said pulse by the detector. The light pulse also passes through the adaptive filter switching the sensor between the measurement state and the reference state, at least, one time during each pulse. The gas concentration is determined by the detector signal difference in the measurement state and the reference state.

EFFECT: decreasing the sensor start time and improving the accuracy of measurements.
