FIELD: machine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method includes cutting workpiece surface with a tool having a cylindrical generating surface and rectilinear generator, which is given the main rotational and translational motion in the milling direction. The tool is given an additional reciprocating feed motion in the direction of the rectilinear generator of the tool with a stroke length not exceeding the difference between the milling width projection on the plane, running through the tool axis, and the length of the tool working part. The rotating motion speed is set to a value which is not less than eight times the speed of said translational feed motion in the cutting direction.
EFFECT: improved tool strength.
