FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: device for delivering drugs through the skin contains a microneedle assembly and a membrane. The configuration of the elongated hole in the membrane draped over the microneedle assembly can control the formation of the opening and/or the way the membrane is draped. At least a portion of the membrane can be at a distance from the microneedle, so that a gap is defined between the membrane and the micro needle. The gap may be configured to at least partially control the formation of the elongated hole. The shape of the gap is at least partially determined by the fold in the membrane. Any wrinkles can be aligned in a predetermined way. The elongated hole is formed by a piercing element. The puncturing element may be a laser beam.
